Ice Hockey Rink Lighting Design

The lighting design of the ice hockey rink relies on the reasonable arrangement of light to comfortably serve the different perspectives of athletes, judges and spectators. It enables athletes to concentrate on giving full play to their competitive level and create good results; enables judges to quickly make accurate and unmistakable judgments; allows the spectators to easily appreciate the technical performance of sports and feel the fierceness and liveliness on the field competitive atmosphere. At the same time, the picture of the color TV broadcast is clear and vivid.

The standard ice hockey rink is 60 meters long, 30 meters wide, and the radius of the corner arc is 8.5 meters. The ice hockey rink is surrounded by solid boundary walls made of wood or plastic materials of 1.15 to 1.12 meters. In addition to the official marking of the field, the entire ice surface and the inner wall of the boundary wall should be white. The width of the ice hockey rink goal is 1.83 meters, and the height is 1.22 meters. The deepest part of the goal is not more than 1 meter or less than 60 meters.

Ice hockey rink is a combination of changeable skating skills and agile hockey skills. It is one of the more confrontational collective ice sports and is also an official event of the Winter Olympics. Athletes wear skates and hold ice sticks to scramble to hit the ball. The ball is generally made of hard rubber, 2,54 cm thick, 7.62 cm in diameter, and the ball weighs 156-170g. During the game, each team has six players, three forwards, two defenders, and one goalkeeper. Athletes hit the ball into the opponent’s goal with ice sticks, the one with the most wins.

The ice hockey rink should have very good uniformity and high horizontal illuminance to prevent glare in the arena. And since many actions of athletes take place near the fence, the shadow formed by the fence should be excluded. For the camera, the vertical illuminance near the enclosure should be guaranteed.

        2.Lighting Design

  1. Classification of stadiumsports

Sports played in indoor stadiums generally fall into two categories. One is the movement that mainly uses space, and the other is the movement that mainly uses low positions. Therefore, when designing lighting, we should pay attention to the characteristics of different sports and treat them separately.

The usual stadiums are mostly for comprehensive purposes, and they are divided into small and medium-sized stadiums, large stadiums and stadiums for color TV broadcasting according to the size.

  1. Basic principles of stadium lighting design

To carry out stadium lighting design, designers must first understand and master the requirements of stadium lighting: that is, illuminance standards and lighting quality. Then determine the lighting solution based on the height and location of the possible installation of the lamps in the stadium building structure. Due to the limitation of the space height of the stadium, it is necessary to meet the illuminance standard and the lighting quality requirements. Therefore, lamps with reasonable light distribution, suitable distance-to-height ratio and strict brightness restrictions should be selected.

  1. The lighting arrangement method of the stadium

The arrangement of lamps in the ice sports arena has particularity. The arrangement of lamps and the direction of light projection have a decisive impact on the lighting quality. The lamps in the sports arena of the stadium should adopt the following lighting arrangements.

1) Uniform single lamp arrangement

2) Group uniform lamp arrangement

  • Side lamp arrangement
  • Combined lamp arrangement
  • Commonly Used Lamps

Ice hockey rink lighting should use professional and efficient LED flood lights.

Features of AIKO LED flood lights. Lightweight lamps with handles for easy handling, adjustable mounting brackets and precise aiming accessories. They can be used in normal indoor and outdoor weather; through gradual improvement, the luminous efficiency of the lamp and the effective utilization of light are greatly improved. The unique optical system and the new light source ensure the overall efficiency with high reliability, low glare and the best lighting level, compact and beautiful appearance, small drag coefficient and light weight. AIKO LED flood lights have uniquely designed light distribution curves, precise beams, multiple light distributions, and can instant start.
