Due to the location of the lamps, which usually require appropriate technicians to install, dismantle and repair, it is important that the lighting is durable. LED lamps have a long service life, are very resistant to mechanical damage and need to be replaced less often. This type of lighting is used for this reason. 

What are the lighting standards on the pitch?

The lighting of sports facilities should not only meet visual requirements, but above all provide good visibility conditions for players, judges, fans and viewers of television or Internet broadcasts. 

When designing sports facilities, you should follow the PN-EN 12193 standard , which specifies lighting requirements for indoor and outdoor sports events in Europe. It only takes into account artificial lighting. It contains guidelines for designing and controlling lighting installations for sports facilities, taking into account several factors: intensity, uniformity of lighting, glare limitations, and color properties of the light source.

These requirements are defined as sports lighting classes – I, II and III. They are determined based on the level of competition and activities, which are divided into international competitions, national competitions, regional competitions, local competitions, training, recreation and school sports. The type of sport practiced was also taken into account – several dozen disciplines practiced indoors and outdoors were listed. Lighting class III has the lowest requirements regarding the quantity and quality of light. Applies to lower-level games, as well as those of a recreational and training nature, for which only basic lighting must be provided. Class II applies to medium-level competitions that require at least good lighting conditions.

Due to the presence of fans at the facility, it is also important to meet the EN1838 standard , which applies to emergency lighting. It is important to ensure fans’ orientation, e.g. at the stadium, in the event of a breakdown. 

Sports facilities use lighting that meets specific parameters, such as: high luminous efficiency, taking into account the power supply system, safety of use by people , freedom of position of the source, which translates into the possibility of directing the light in any direction, high stability of the light flux, low flicker factor.

How does the lighting of sports facilities affect the well-being of fans and players?

Lighting affects the comfort of fans who watch a match or competition. Appropriate light also provides viewers with additional emotions and increases the prestige of a given facility. To ensure the highest possible comfort for fans, it is necessary to ensure the correct horizontal lighting intensity, which serves to create a stable background and allows the human eye to recognize individual athletes as well as objects on the pitch. 

Providing optimal lighting that meets all standards is essential. Appropriate lighting conditions allow competitors to have better visibility and assess distances, which in some disciplines is crucial on the way to victory.
